Lady Bears Sweep Columbia College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | The Lady Bears traveled to Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday March 31st to take on the Columbia College Koalas in an AAC matchup. The Lady Bears would enter play with 7-5 ACC record currently in 5th place in conference.

The Lady Bears didn't waste any time as they batted around in the top of the 1st inning, in game one of the double header. Brie Levy doubled to left with the bases juiced pushing home two runs, Sara Horne would later double to left as well driving home Milly Martinet. Macey Dunaway stepped to the plate and delivered a sharp single into right field allowing Levy to score from third. The Lady Bears scored 4 runs on 4 hits as they took a 4-0 lead over the Koalas.

The Koalas would make it interesting in the bottom of the 3rd has they scored 3 runs making it a 4-3 game.

After the Koalas had closed the lead down to one run, the Lady Bears were able to manufacture two runs in the top of the 4th inning as they played a little small ball.  After Dunaway singled to right for the second time in the game, Morrison laid down a beautiful bunt reaching base. Both runners advanced on a throwing error. As runners stood on second and third, Kaitlynn Hay hit a sac fly to center as both runners advanced extending the lead to 5-3. Morrison would later score on a single by Sara Sullivan. At the end of 4, the Lady Bears lead 6-3.

Moving forward to the top of the 6th inning the Lady Bears were looking to put the game out of reach as they knocked in an additional 4 runs as they batted around for the second time in their many innings. Extending their lead to 10-3.

In the top half of the 7th Milly Martinet homered for her 11th time this year.
The Lady Bears would go on to win the game 11-3 improving their AAC record to 8-5 on the year.
 
The Lady Bears would strike first in the nightcap of the double header scoring one run in the top of the first inning. Milly Martinet would reach base on balls, after Jones was hit by a pitch, the Lady Bears would have runners on first second with two out. Martinet would score on an error by the short stop. The Lady Bears would take 1-0 lead.

Columbia would score a pair of run in the bottom of the first giving them a 2-1 lead over the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears would answer back quickly as they put up three runs on 5 hits in the top of the second to regain the lead 4-2.

The Lady Bears' offense would strike again in the top of the 4th inning as Jaden Morrison walked to lead off the inning and then swiped two bags. With Morrison standing on third with two outs, Martinet singled to center allowing Morrison to trot home. After Jones walked and Levy singled, the Lady bears had the bases loaded. Sarah Horne singled to center driving home both Martinet and Jones giving the Lady Bears a commanding 7-2 lead.
The offense wasn't finished as they added to their lead in the top of the 6th as Brie Levy and Karli Loudermilk hit a couple of solo shots increasing the Lady Bear's lead to 9-2.

In the top of the 7th Milly Martinet would hit a 3 run shot, her 12th HR of the year as the Lady Bears would go on to score 4 runs in the inning and win the game by a score of 13-2.

Karly Hobbs turned in another dominate performance on the mound for the Lady Bears hurling 7.0 innings only allowing two runs as she earned her 14th win.

Notes: Milly Martinet tied the TMU single season HR record which she set in 2016 at 12. With 14 games left in the season it looks as she will destroy that record as she is on pace to hit 17 HR on the year.
 
The Lady Bears will be back in action at home against Middle Georgia State on April 3rd for a DH starting @ 2pm.
