Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Montreat, Nc. | The Lady Bears traveled to Montreat, NC., for their last conference series of the regular season on Tuesday, April 19th. Entering the final regular season series, the Lady Bears held a one game lead for the first place spot in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. With two wins, they would be named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Regular Season Champions for the first time in program history.

Game 1

Sophomore Bethany Hyde started on the mound for the Lady Bears, but would be replaced early on by freshman Karley Hobbs for the remainder of the game  after Montreat came out hot posting three runs in the first inning.

The Lady Bears caught fire in the next five innings. In the top of the 2nd, Reba Jones, who has been on a tear lately, singled to right field. Jones would later score from Peyton Wilson's ground out to short.

Beginning the top of the 3rd, Jaden Morrision reached first base on a bunt, and she would later steal both second and third base. Sophomore Sara Sullivan would come up big for the Lady Bears as she laid down a bunt to allow Morrison to score.

After narrowing Montreat's lead to 3-2, senior Reba Jones blasted a solo home run over the left field wall in the top of the 4th to tie the game.

The Lady Bears' bats remained active entering the 5th inning as two runs scored off a RBI double from Milly Martinet and a RBI single from Reba Jones.

In the top of the 6th, the Lady Bears refused to look back as they extended their lead even more by scoring seven runs off of six hits for a 12-3 lead.

Montreat would score one more run, but it proved not to be enough as the Lady Bears took a 12-4 win from Montreat in Game 1.

Game 2

The Lady Bears continued their offensive firepower from Game 1 in the top of the 1st. After singling to right field and advancing to second from a base hit, Kaitlynn Hay would be sent home by a Milly Martinet's single up the middle. Reba Jones then reached base safely on an error by the third baseman. After Brie Levy walked to load the bases, Sarah Horne singled to right field, driving in both Martinet and Jones. The Lady Bears kept rolling as sophomore Peyton Wilson hit a double to drive in two more runs for the Lady Bears to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

Montreat would score one run in the bottom of the 1st to cut the lead down.

Moving to the top of the 2nd inning, The Lady Bears added another run to the scoreboard. Milly Martinet doubled to left, and she would be sent home off Sarah Horne's single up the middle.

With the bases loaded in the top of the 3rd, Milly Martinet cleared the bases with a double that sent Macey Dunaway, Jaden Morrison, and Sara Sullivan home. The Lady Bears held a commanding 9-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Montreat matched the Lady Bears scoring outpour by scoring three runs of their own to cut the Lady Bears' lead down to 9-4.

Junior Brie Levy smashed a two-run home run over the left field wall in the top of 5th to extend the Lady Bears' lead.

Montreat fought to stay in the game scoring four runs combined in the 5th and 6th innings, but it proved to not be enough as the Lady Bears took Game 2 by a final score of 11-8.

With the series sweep of Montreat, the Lady Bears claimed the Appalachian Athletic Conference Regular Season Title, a number one seed heading into the conference tournament, and a NAIA National Tournament berth. As the regular season comes to a close, the Lady Bears have made several historical achievements as a program this season. The 2018 season marks the first time in program history that the Lady Bears have reached the 30-win mark. It is the first time in program history that the Lady Bears have been named AAC Regular Season Champions, and also will be the first time the Lady Bears have qualified for the NAIA National Tournament. The Lady Bears will continue their historic run as they head in the conference tournament on Wednesday, April 25th, with a bye in Round 1.
