Cleveland, Ga. | On Tuesday, April 17th, Truett McConnell's Softball team hosted Brenau University in a doubleheader matchup. Coming into the doubleheader, the Lady Bears held a first place spot in the conference and a hot 10-game conference win streak.
Game 1
Sophomore
Bethany Hyde would start on the mound in the opening game of the doubleheader for the Lady Bears.
The Lady Bears would strike first in the bottom of the first inning, as
Kaitlynn Hay led the inning off with a triple to center-field.
Sara Sullivan would ground out to second base to drive in
Kaitlynn Hay and give the Lady Bears an early 1-0 lead.
The Golden Tigers responded in the top half of the second inning with two runs to gain the lead. In the third inning, the Golden Tigers extended their lead gain with another run to go up 3-1.
Freshman
Karley Hobbs would enter the game for the Lady Bears, holding the Golden Tigers at bay for the rest of the game giving the offense a chance to come back and win the game. Hobbs is highlighted from her performance last week as being named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time in a row and third time this season.
The Lady Bears offense would come alive in the bottom of the 3rd inning as
Jaden Morrison reached on a walk and stole second base.
Kaitlynn Hay then bunted and reached base on a wild throw by the third baseman, allowing Morrison to score from second.
Continuing to claw away at the lead, the Lady Bears would tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the 4th off the bat of
Reba Jones, as she launched her first home run
Kaitlynn Hayover the left-field wall.
In the bottom of the 5th,
Kaitlynn Hay singled to right with one out.
Milly Martinet would hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped by the right fielder, allowing Hay to score.
The Lady Bears would go on to win the game with a final score of 4-3.
Game 2
In Game 2,
Karley Hobbs returned to the mound for the Lady Bears and pitched another dominate game. Hobbs pitched 7.0 innings for the Lady Bears in Game 2 and only allowed 8 hits with no runs.
With the dominate performance turned in by Hobbs, the Lady Bears only needed one run to win the game.
That lone run crossed the plate in the 4th inning for the Lady Bears.
Kaitlynn Hay would lead the bottom of the 4th off with a single to left field. Sophomore
Sara Sullivan then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Hay up to second base. With 2 outs and Hay on second, Levy hit a pop up to the infield, and because of a drop by Brenau, Hay was able to score to give the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead.
Hobbs continued her trend of dominant performances to shut down Brenau's offense and get the win for the Lady Bears by a score of 1-0.
With the win, the Lady Bears extend their winning streak in conference to twelve games. The Lady Bears will be back in action on Thursday, April 19th, as they travel to Montreat, NC, to take on Montreat College in their last conference series of the regular season.
