Lady Bears fall short to Reinhardt

Waleska, Ga. |  On Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Bears traveled to Waleska, GA, to take on Reinhardt University Eagles in an Appalachian Athletic Conference double header matchup.

Game 1

Bethany Hyde would start on the mound for the Lady Bears in Game 1 of the double header. Hyde has had some success pitching for the Lady Bear this season as she has posted a 2.99 ERA in her 17 games.

Reinhardt came out of the gates aggressive as they posted three runs in the bottom of the 1st. 

After leaving the Lady Bears scoreless two innings in a row, Reinhardt pushed across another run in the 2nd inning to push their lead to 4-0.

The Lady Bears bats came alive in the 3rd inning as they scored three runs off of two hits and two errors to narrow the scoring margin to 4-3. Reinhardt answered the Lady Bears hot 3rd inning by extending their lead by adding 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. 

After Reinhardt scored an insurance run in the bottom of the 4th, the game would remain at 8-3, as the Lady Bears fell to Reinhardt in Game 1.

Game 2

Coming off a notable Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week award, Karley Hobbs stepped to the mound for the Lady Bears in Game 2.

The Lady Bears matched Reinhardt's aggressiveness out of the gate from Game 1 by scoring one run in the top of the 1st for a 1-0 off a Reba Jones RBI to send Kaitlynn Hay home.

The Lady Bears pushed across another run in the top of 2nd inning, when Morrison was driven home by Sullivan to extend the Lady Bears lead to 2-0.

Jaden Morrison continued to help push the Lady Bears lead in the top of the 4th inning, as she tripled to deep right and scored later by Hay's RBI for a 3-0 lead.

Hobbs was dominate through the first 5 innings of the game as she gave up only two hits. However, she ran into  trouble in the bottom of the 6th when the Lady Eagles were able to tie the game with 3 runs on 4 hits.

The game would go into extra innings after being tied through seven innings. Reinhardt was able to seal the game with a walk-off single to left to take Game 2 from the Lady Bears, 4-3.


The Lady Bears fall to 7-5 in conference play and 20-12 overall. They will be back in action this weekend, as they travel to Columbia, SC, to take on Columbia College on Saturday, March 31st.
