Hot Bats lead to Split at Martin Methodist

The Lady Bears headed north to Pulaski, Tennessee on Friday to take on the Martin Methodist College Red Hawks in the first road test of the season. Taking the circle in game one was sophomore Bethany Hyde. The Bears got off to a rocky start giving up two runs in the first inning. They would settle down to only give up one other run in the fourth inning. The Bears were able to string together six hits in seven innings including a solo homerun by junior right fielder Brie Levy in the top of the fifth. Bethany Hyde put together a complete game pitching performance only allowing four hits with three strike outs and two walks. The Bears fell short losing the first game of the double header by a score of 3-1. Driving the offense was Kaitlynn Hay (1-3), Reba Jones (1-3), Brie Levy (1-3), Karli Loudermilk (1-2 with a double), Sarah Horne(1-3) and freshman Montana McGinnis collected her first hit of her Truett-McConnell career going 1-1 in a pitch hit role. Bethany Hyde has put together an impressive start to the season allowing only five hits in fourteen innings.

The Bears bounced back in game two behind an impressive outing in the circle from freshman Karley Hobbs. Hobbs cooled down the Red Hawk bats allowing only four singles and one earned run in the complete game performance. The Bears bats came alive collecting eighteen total hits in the game. The Bears scored five runs on nine hits on the Red Hawk starter before they collected three more runs and nine hits off the two relievers. Offensively the bears were led by the outstanding performance of Milly Martinet (4-5) followed by Kaitlynn Hay (3-5), Reba Jones (2-4), Sarah Horne (2-4), Karli Loudermilk (2-5 including a successful squeeze play), and Jaden Morrison was able to create trouble on the base paths getting on base in all four plate appearances. All of the offensive production, a stellar defensive performance and a strong showing in the circle lead the Bears to a 8-1 victory in game two bringing the Lady Bears record to 3-1 on the year.

The Lady Bears are back in action this week as they travel to Thomasville, Ga to take part in a two day tournament hosted by Thomas University.starting Friday morning with a 10am start time facing the University of Rio Grande (Ohio).
