Lady Bears fall in exhibition at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. (Dec. 29, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to Piedmont College, an NCAA DIII school, for their first exhibition game of the season. Despite a well-played third quarter by TMU, the Piedmont Lions won their third straight game defeating the Lady Bears 56-31.

"We played pretty good defense but gave them more chances to score with the amount of turnovers we had," Head Coach Tiek Fields said. "We will keep building; we have a big conference game Wednesday (against Tennessee Wesleyan) and we have to come ready to play."

Piedmont held the Lady Bears scoreless for seven of the 10 minutes in the first quarter, only allowing one TMU bucket (3-9), and went on to hold TMU to just one more bucket before the half (6-19). However, the Lady Bears came back out in the third quarter ready to fight scoring 16 points in comparison to Piedmont's 19. In fact, TMU trimmed the deficit to just 13 with three minutes left to go in the third quarter but it proved not enough as the Lions went on to put up 18 more in the fourth.

The Lady Bears were led by sophomore Sierra Kendall with her second straight double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Re'Tavia Floyd followed with 11 points and fellow freshman Sydney Rumble was credited three assists. Freshman Quan Holton earned four steals.

Up next, TMU will return home to the Benjamin F. Brady Arena for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against Tennessee Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m.
