Lady Bears drop first AAC game on the road

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 7, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to Union College for their first Appalachian Athletic Conference battle of the season on Wednesday. The Bulldogs handed the Lady Bears their first conference loss, 88-60.

EARLY RUN | LATE RALLY

Union was capable of starting off the game with an 11-0 run which ultimately proved to be the difference. The Lady Bears worked to minimize the deficit putting up 25 points but the Bulldogs put up 34 more before the half (25-45).

Union carried over the momentum into the second half but TMU battled to be outscored by just five (19-14). The fourth quarter saw a similar fight from the Lady Bears as they scored 21 points in comparison to Union's 24 but it proved not enough as the Bulldogs secured the win over the Lady Bears.

COACH'S COMMENTS

"We allowed too many shots at the rim tonight," Head Coach Tiek Fields said. "We're still learning the importance of details on defense. It's tough because we're starting conference so early but we will get on the right track very soon."

LEADERS

Freshman Nicole Bates led with nine points, going 2-for-2 from behind the arc, while fellow freshman Re'Tavia Floyd followed with eight. Sophomore Sierra Kendall added six points and five rebounds while freshmen Camilla Howell and Helena Lee also added six apiece. Hannah Dunston and Quan Holton were credited two assists apiece.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears return home on Saturday, Nov. 10, for another AAC matchup against Columbia International University at 2:00 p.m.
