Undefeated Lady Bears fall in semifinal game

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Nov. 6, 2018) – For the first time since September 12, the Truett McConnell University women's soccer team let up a goal in the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament semifinal game against Milligan College on Tuesday afternoon. In fact, the Buffaloes found the back of the net twice on the Lady Bears to be the first AAC school to hand TMU a loss this season (2-0).

The Buffs snapped the Lady Bears' 15 game win streak to advance to the finals.

"It just wasn't our day," AAC Coach of the Year David McDowell said. "We played well enough to create plenty of chances to win it but credit to Milligan. They battled and kept going and had a good game plan. We're sad we won't be competing in the conference final but we will bounce back for nationals. This is a great group and I know they will respond positively."

TMU outshot Milligan 31-16, nine on target in comparison to the Buffs' eight on goal. The Lady Bears also earned eight corner kicks in comparison to Milligan's four. The Buffs' first goal of the game came in the first six minutes after a through ball sent from the midfield while their second goal came in the 73rd minute.

AAC Freshman of the Year Lydia Williams' shot on goal from 18 yards out was amongst one of the closest scoring opportunities for the Lady Bears forcing Milligan's keeper to fully extend and save the shot with her finger tips which led to one of TMU's eight corners. Another spark off the bench, Jessica Lanier, took a handful of smart opportunities inside the box. Sophomore All-Conference first team member Marissa Harkins did a stellar job at center back holding fellow All-Conference first team member Bekah Cundiff to three shots, one on target which was Milligan's first goal.

Sophomore Jessica Hale tallied a total of six goals. Lanier, Williams and Harkins all led with two shots on goal.

Up next, the Lady Bears will find out who they will face in the opening round of the NAIA women's soccer national championship tournament on Monday, Nov. 12.
