CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 30, 2018) – Five Bears scored in double figures to lead the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team to victory in their season home opener against Toccoa Falls College on Tuesday night at the Benjamin F. Brady Area. The Bears defeated the Screaming Eagles by 20 points (96-76).

In front of a loud home crowd, the Bears out-played the Screaming Eagles according to the numbers. TMU out-rebounded Toccoa 37-24 and earned 11 offensive rebounds in comparison to Toccoa's four. After the first few minutes of the first half, TMU got out front and it was only up from there. The Bears led by as much as 13 points in the first 20 minutes of play. The Screaming Eagles worked to come within three points of the Bears with three minutes until halftime but that was the last time they trailed by no more than six.
In fact, the second half saw the most dominating 20 minutes of the night. TMU went on to lead by as many as 24 points and as little as 15 with 14 minutes left to go. All in all, the Bears connected for 10 3-pointers in comparison to Toccoa's eight. The Bears also accounted for 13 steals in comparison to the Screaming Eagles' five.
LEADERS
Sophomore Calvin White led with his first double-double of the year, 14 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Christian Davis compiled a total of 20 points going 6-for-12 from the 3-point arch. Junior Darius Thrower also scored in double figures with 14 points while sophomore Myles Monroe added 13 points and seven rebounds and senior Jacob Booke scored 10. Filipe Goncalves was credited five assists while Davis and Monroe added four apiece.

The Bears will be on the road on Saturday, Nov. 3, for another nonconference game at Morris College at 4:00 p.m. TMU's first Appalachian Athletic Conference game will be Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Union College.
