WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 16, 2018) – Four different Lady Bears scored for the Truett McConnell University women's soccer team, who is receiving votes in the NAIA national top 25 released Tuesday, to claim their 11th straight win, tenth straight Appalachian Athletic Conference win and 11th shutout of the season. TMU defeated Point University (5-8-1, 3-4-1 AAC) on the road Tuesday evening (4-0) to improve to 12-1, 10-0 AAC on the year.
GOAL BY GOAL
TMU came out in the first half ready to dominate outshooting the Skyhawks 12-3. All in all, the Lady Bears' defense only allowed Point to tally one shot on goal. TMU's first goal came with six minutes remaining in the first half on a corner kick. Tori Wilson recorded her team-leading fifth assist sending the ball into the box finding the feet of Marissa Harkins who completed the first goal of the night (1-0). Just 42 seconds later, senior Megan McCall cut in from the left 30 yards out and drilled a great shot from outside the 18 into the top corner netting (2-0).
Susanna Peppers found Sydney Ziglar, just two minutes after the freshman came off the bench, in the middle 12 yards out allowing Ziglar to blast her fourth goal of her freshman campaign (3-0). With 15 minutes remaining, Jasmin Lanuza was unmarked about 15 yards out which enabled her to net the fourth and final goal of the evening (4-0).
COACH'S COMMENTS
"This was a very solid win for us on the road," Head Coach David McDowell said. "We played some good soccer against a good Point team and scored some really nice goals too. The result is great but the performance was excellent. The girls have put in a lot of minutes on the field recently and I'm proud of them to produce a performance of this level on the road."
LEADERS
M. McCall, Lanuza and Jennifer McCall all accounted for three shots apiece. Susanna Peppers added two shots. Jessica Hale earned her 11th shutout at the goal for TMU with one save on the night.
