CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 13, 2018) – Joao Costa led the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team in their first tie of the season in a double overtime draw against the Milligan College Buffaloes (1-1). The Bears moved to 6-5-1, 2-5-1 AAC on the year and the Buffs 5-5-2, 1-4-2 AAC.
COSTA'S GOAL | BY THE NUMBERS
Overall, the Bears outshot the Buffs 21-7 (9-2 on goal). The battle went back and forth until Costa found the back of the net for the 11th time this season. Costa's team-leading goal came in the 54th minute after Edgar Cerano found him at the top of the 18. Costa's first touch went directly over the head of a Milligan defender enabling him to finish a full volley into the side netting (1-0).
Just two minutes later, Milligan matched the lone goal after TMU's keeper Evan Gaffney misjudged the flighted ball into the box that took an awkward bounce which then spun right through the hands of Gaffney (1-1). Neither team was able to finish the remaining 30 minutes which forced an overtime.
LEADERS
Austin Manzo led with six shots, two on goal, while Costa followed with four, two on goal. Giovanni Giraudo added three and Clancy Loudermilk added two. Gaffney tallied two saves on the night in comparison to Milligan's eight.
