WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 16, 2018) – Two Bears found the back of the net for the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team on Tuesday evening but it proved not enough as the Bears dropped an Appalachian Athletic Conference showdown on the road with just one second remaining. TMU fell to the Point University Skyhawks (3-2) on a direct kick in the 89th minute.
The Bears dropped to 6-6-1, 2-6-1 AAC on the year while the Skyhawks, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25 poll, improved to 11-1-1, 6-1 AAC on the year.
TMU'S GOALS
In only took 10 minutes for Joao Costa, the most recent AAC men's soccer offensive player of the week, to score his team-leading 12th goal. A through ball sent from Victor Clemente allowed Costa to score the first goal of the night on a first touch (1-0). TMU's defense remained solid as the Skyhawks shot eight times the remainder of the half but was unable to score. However, Point came back out in the second half ready to finish. The Skyhawks connected for two goals within eight minutes of each other to put them up by one (2-3).
Clemente netted the tying goal with 19:27 to go off a crossed ball from Trevor Fick. With three seconds to go in the game, TMU fouled at the top of the box and Point scored the game-winning goal on a direct kick (3-2).
Evan Gaffney recorded a season-high of 10 saves.

The Bears will travel to St. Andrews University on Saturday, Oct. 20, for their final regular season AAC matchup. TMU will then host Georgia Gwinnett College on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 1:00 p.m.
