CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 10, 2018) – For the second night in a row, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team came out on top in five sets to claim their fourth straight Appalachian Athletic Conference win. Sophomore Abby Maxwell recorded her sixth double-double and 1,000th career assist while senior Shayla Smith tied her season-high 21 kills to lead the Lady Bears to victory against St. Andrews University on Wednesday night (21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 15-7).
TMU improved to 11-13, 6-6 AAC while the Knights dropped to 6-8, 3-3 AAC on the year.

TMU started out slow in the first set as the Knights outshined the Lady Bears in the kills column and earned an early lead which proved enough as St. Andrews took the first game by four points (21-25). The Lady Bears picked up the pace in the second game leading by as much as six points in the first five minutes of play (7-1). St. Andrews was unable to recover as TMU went on to lead by as much as seven points. Smith's kill enabled the first win of the night for the Lady Bears (25-21).
Game three saw the tightest race of the night with a tied game at nine different points. However, it was TMU who rose to the occasion. Smith's kill sealed the deal once again as the Lady Bears took the third set of the night on a 3-1 run (25-23). St. Andrews' early 8-0 run and late 4-0 run proved to be the difference as the Knights won the fourth set despite both teams accounting for 11 kills apiece (25-20).
TMU went on to outplay St. Andrews in the fifth game of the night earning six kills in comparison to the Knights' one. TMU's defense only allowed St. Andrews seven points in order for the Lady Bears to fasten their fourth straight AAC win over the Knights (15-7).
LEADERS
For the second match straight freshman Bethany Ross compiled a total of 16 kills. Hannah Lee recorded another 20+ digs night with 23 while Maxwell's sixth double-double of the season featured a total of 48 assists and 13 digs. Freshman Taylor Roland earned her season-high of 18 digs. Madison Curtis, Harris Ann Walker, Olivia Beasley, Smith and Maxwell all earned two blocks.
