CLEVELAND, GA. | The Lady Bears picked up their first conference win yesterday, 57-56. Senior
Anna Murr drove all the way down the court and nailed a layup with 2.6 seconds left to give the Lady Bears a 1 point lead, and their first AAC Conference win on the season. The Lady Bears are now 3-12 on the season, and 1-10 in AAC conference play.
Both teams traded baskets in the beginning of the game, as the score was 14-12 in favor of Columbia after 1 quarter of play.
Anna Murr,
Sarah Hartshorn, and
Madison Curtis all had 3's that helped them outscore Columbia College 20-5 in the 2nd quarter, and took a 32-19 lead into the locker room.
Columbia College was not going to go down easy. Their Coach made halftime adjustments, and Columbia College outscored the Bears 17-6 in the 3rd quarter to close in on the Bear's lead, 38-36. More threes, solid play from
Bralise Reese gave the Bears a 47-40 lead with just under 6 minutes in the game, but then Columbia College made their surge. Columbia went on a 16-5 run, and with 15 seconds left it looked as if the Lady Bears were going to lose a heartbreaker, but they had other plans. Coach
Tiek Fields took his final timeout, and got a quick 3 from
Madison Curtis to get them within 1. The Bears immediately fouled with 9 seconds left, as everyone waited anxiously. Columbia missed both of their free throws, and
Anna Murr surged down the court and drained the layup in traffic to give the Bears the lead with 2.6 seconds remaining, and ultimately the win.
The Lady Bears are beginning to show signs of improvement. Team play helped them win their first AAC Conference game.
Madison Curtis,
Bralise Reese, and
Sierra Kendall all finished in double digits in scoring.
Up next for the Lady Bears is Milligan College this Wednesday in The Bear Cave. Tip-off is set for 5:30 P.M.
