CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell men's basketball team got a huge defensive stop as time expired to hold on to a 69-68 win Saturday afternoon against Bluefield. The Bears are now 14-12 overall and an even 8-8 in AAC play.
Neither team led by more than seven points in the contest, but the big difference in the game was sophomore
Jacob Booke, who had a tough time missing shots from behind the arc. Booke finished 9-for-18 from three-point range, compiling a game-high 31 points in 34 minutes of court time. Booke's nine three pointers puts him in second all-time in TMU history in threes made in a single game behind only Roderick Bombard, who hit 10 against Pensacola Christian on March 5, 2012.
After two made free throws by
Kai Lambert with 24 seconds to play, Bluefield wound down the clock to take the final shot. Stanthony Nelms drove down the lane but couldn't finish with the left hand as time expired.
David Campbell, Jr., added 14 points for the Bears in the win.
The Bears will look to continue the winning streak with a Wednesday matchup at St. Andrews. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
