CLEVELAND | Andrew Fogarty hit home runs on back-to-back at-bats in the latter half of a Saturday doubleheader as the Truett McConnell baseball team claimed the season series over Marian by sweeping the twinbill, 2-0 and 4-2.
Game one saw a pitchers' duel between
Fraser Ellard and Zeke Howie for Marian. TMU found a way to push a run across the plate in the third inning when
Chris Carden plated
Davis Dasher on a single to center. Three innings later, the Bears put two on base with two outs and were able to take advantage of a Knight error to get a big insurance run.
Game two was a bit more exciting as the Bears, after giving up a run in the first, used a two-run bomb to left field by Fogarty to retake the lead, 2-1.
After an
Austin Bishop double down the left field line that scored Carden in the third, Fogarty hit another homer in the fourth inning to give the Bears a 4-1 lead. Marian pushed another run across in the fifth on a sacrifice fly but it was not enough as the Bears' pitching staff shut down the Knights in the late innings.
The Bears will travel to Toccoa Falls on Tuesday to take on the Eagles. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
