CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell baseball team split its doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan Friday afternoon, winning on a walk-off single in the first game, 2-1, before falling in the second, 5-0. The Bears are now 6-1 in 2017.
A pitcher's duel was played out in the first game with
Gregory Elder Jr., and Jon Young dealt in the opening frames. The Wildcats broke through in the seventh inning after a leadoff walk made its way around to take a 1-0 lead to the bottom of the seventh.
After two quick strikeouts to lead off the bottom of the inning,
Calob Rowland walked and then stole second and third.
Davis Dasher earned the game-tying RBI with a bunt single down the third-base line. Two batters later,
Chris Carden delivered the walk-off on a single to right field.
The second game went a bit differently as IWU was able to put three runs up in the first two innings. The Bears never really got going offensively as Austin Swift dealt for the Wildcats.
Elder finished with 12 strikeouts in his no-decision in game one.
The Bears and Wildcats will conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon.
