CLEVELAND | The Truett McConnell baseball team split games three and four of the series with Indiana Wesleyan Saturday afternoon, winning the opener, 8-4, before falling in 10 innings, 7-2, in the nightcap.
TMU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first game, scoring three runs on just one hit in the first inning. They added four more in the fourth. Two back-to-back RBI doubles by
Austin Bishop and
Chris Carden preceded a two-run bomb to left center for
Patrick Overstreet that put TMU up, 7-0.
After a four-run inning by IWU, the Bears buckled down defensively and added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a
Davis Dasher bunt single.
The second game of the day was tight throughout. TMU took an early 2-0 lead before the Wildcats knotted it up with single runs in the third and fourth innings. The Wildcats finally broke through in the third extra inning when Andrew Breytenbach hit a grand slam to put the game out of hand.
Dasher finished the day hitting 4-for-7 from the plate.
The Bears will hit the road for the first time of the season on Tuesday when they travel to Middle Georgia for a mid-week game. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
