CLEVELAND, GA. | The Truett McConnell University Women's Basketball team jumped out to a 10 point lead early in the first quarter against Union College Saturday evening in Cleveland, GA. Unfortunately the lady bears could not hold on to the offensive advantage with the bulldogs outscoring with second chance points 25-7. The bulldogs fought their way back to eventually win in overtime against TMU 61-59. The loss now puts TMU 2-8 on the season and 0-7 on AAC play.
Truett McConnell jumped out to a 20-13 lead at the end of the first period. The Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run at the beginning of the second quarter to put them up by one 20-19 with 7:17 remaining. The remainder of the period was back and forth with four led changes, but Union would go into the half trailing 33-32.
The Bears then went on a 14-5 run, taking a 47-39 led. Union answered back with three field-goals closing the gap down to two with a 47-45 score at the end of the third. Union would tie things up after hitting a field goal at the beginning of the period, making it 47-47 with 9:41 remaining in regulation. The Bulldogs didn't allow the Bears to break away during the final period, sending the game into overtime tied at 56-56.
Truett McConnell started overtime with a free throw by
China Durham, but Union answered back with a pair of free throws and a bucket, giving the Bulldogs a 60-57 advantage. Union held off Truett McConnell for the 61-59 overtime win.
TMU had three players to end in double digits offensively for the night;
Mikayla Miles (16),
Anna Murr (13), and Bralise Reese (12).
The Lady Bears will be back in the Bear Cave Wednesday Dec. 6 against Point University. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
