Lady Bears Lose 1-0 On the Road to Milligan
The Lady Bears took to the road to face off against the Lady Buffalos of Milligan College on Saturday afternoon. Both teams found themselves near the top of the conference standings. Milligan, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, was looking to bounce back from a 3-2 loss in their previous match while the Lady Bears were looking to build off of a 1-0 win in their latest contest.
The Lady Bears seemed to be in control of the game in the first half by attempting more than twice the amount of shots than Milligan. TMU attempted nine shots throughout the half and six of them were on target, but the Milligan GK was able to save all threatening shots. Thanks to saves from the Lady Bears' GK, Ashlyn Walloch, and solid play from their defense, Milligan was unsuccessful in securing a goal in the half and the contest had a 0-0 score going into the half.
Milligan turned up the intensity in the match in the second half by applying high pressure to the Lady Bears. This was a new tactic used against TMU, and Milligan was able to use this strategy to create more offensive chances. These chances would pay off for the Lady Buffalos with a goal in the seventy-first minute. The Lady Bears had chances of their own in the half, but were not able to convert a chance into an equalizer, and would fall to Milligan 1-0.
"Milligan worked hard for that result. They were disciplined in their game-plan and made it difficult for us to play our game," said Coach David McDowell. "It was a tough day for us, but we know who we are and what we have to do, and I have great confidence in this group of girls to finish the season strong." The Lady Bears head on the road again for their next match, which will be against Bryan College Tuesday October 17th at 4:30pm.
