#23 Bears Defeat Buffalos 3-2
The 2017 season has been an unprecedented season for the TMU Men's Soccer Program. Coming into the conference match against Milligan College, the Bears had received a twenty-third national ranking, and had piled up a seven-game unbeaten streak in the process. Needless to say, any opponent that the Bears face now will give them their best shot, and the Buffalos from Milligan College were no exception.
The Buffalos' effort was exceptional and they came into the match hungry for an upset. They provided an early scare with a goal in the sixth minute, but the Bears would regroup and play their game. Joao Costa provided an equalizer for the Bears off an assist from Jordan Moreno in the thirtieth minute. A little over two minutes would pass and the Bears would take the lead in the match with a goal from Clancy Loudermilk off an assist from Ignacio Perez. Costa completed his brace in the thirty-eighth minute off another assist from Moreno, and the Bears took their 3-1 lead into halftime.
Each team had chances to score in the second half. The Bears managed to rifle off ten shots in the half, which was even more than their first half total, and the Buffalos were able to attempt twice as many shots as they took in the first half. Even though there were more shots taken, the only one that resulted in a goal came off a PK in the eighty-ninth minute for the Buffalos. The Bears preserved the lead throughout the little time that was left in the match, giving them a 3-2 conference road victory.
"A good win on the road. When you are up near the top every team is going to give you their best game," said Coach Rob Miller. "We started off slow but going one goal behind gave us the boost we needed and we quick-fired with 3 very well worked goals." Miller went on to give high praise to the players who entered the game off the bench and said that the win was a "real team performance." The Bears' next match will be on the road against Bryan College on Tuesday October 17th at 7pm.
