CLEVELAND, GA. | Lady Bears Defeat Point 1-0
The Lady Bears hosted the Lady Skyhawks from Point University on Wednesday afternoon. Both teams were looking to bounce back from defeats in their previous matches and the Lady Bears were looking to keep their high standing within the conference.
The Lady Bears had the majority of possession in the first half, and that possession led to multiple scoring opportunities and limited Point's chances to score. TMU took multiple corner kicks and shot eight times in the half, but none of these efforts resulted in a goal. The score going into halftime was 0-0.
Due to adjustments in the second half by the Lady Bears, they were able to manufacture more opportunities to score. The first few shots in the half were either just wide of the target or saved, but eventually TMU's time to score would come. In the sixty-second minute of play,
Megan McCall played a ball that found the feet of
Katey Griggs who launched a beautiful strike into the top corner of the net. The Lady Bears continued to play well and were able to preserve their 1-0 lead throughout the remainder of the game.
"This was a good result for us. We came up against an organized Point team that were hard to break down, but the girls stuck with it and played some great soccer," said Coach
David McDowell. McDowell would go on to highlight of his Senior Captain
Katey Griggs. "We also saw a terrific performance from Griggsy. She has been superb all season and played great again today with a superb goal. She has had four excellent years here, and her goal and performance today was top class." The Lady Bears look to build off of Wednesday's conference victory in their next match, which will be at Milligan College on Saturday October 14th at 3pm.
