MONTREAT, N.C. | The Truett McConnell women's soccer team split a pair of games over the holiday weekend, dropping a 1-0 decision to the University of the Cumberlands Saturday afternoon before earning its first win of the season by way of a 3-0 victory over the University of Rio Grande on Monday afternoon. The Bears are now 1-2-0 on the young season.

The Bears fell behind early as Jody LeMaster headed home a cross from Rachel Palazzo in the 29th minute of play.

TMU had seven shots on goal in the final 20 minutes of the contest, but all seven were saved by the Patriots as they were able to hold on to win.

TMU 3, University of Rio Grande 0
Paige Williams, Katey Griggs and Jasmin Lanuza all put home goals as the Bears led from start to finish on Labor Day. TMU took a 1-0 lead to the break and then added two more after halftime.

The Bears outshot Rio Grande 22-5 in the contest, and goalie Sarah Christmas had to make just one save as the back line for Truett McConnell stood strong throughout the match.

Truett McConnell will open AAC play on Saturday, September 10, in Laurinburg, North Carolina, as the Bears will take on St. Andrews. Kickoff is slated for high noon.
