BARBOURVILLE, Kentucky | The Truett McConnell volleyball team dropped an AAC match to Union before sweeping Allen in straight sets in the second game at the Union tri-match Saturday at Union College.
Union 3, TMU 0
The Bears played a competitive first set against Union, only committing one error in the set. After trading points early, Union, leading 12-10, went on a 6-0 run to take an 18-10 lead. They would go on to win the first set, 25-18.
The two-time defending AAC champions in Union showed why they were picked as the favorites to win again in 2016 in the second and third sets, winning 25-9 in the second set and 25-13 in the third.
TMU 3, Allen 0
The Bears responded in the second match of the day, picking up their first AAC win of the season in straight sets over Allen. In the first set, TMU jumped out to a 10-3 lead before Allen scored 10 of the next 13 points to tie the set at 13-13. The Bears and Yellow Jackets traded points until Truett McConnell scored the final six points of the set to win, 25-18.
Truett McConnell won the second and third sets with relative comfort, taking the lead midway through both sets and holding off the Yellow Jackets late in both sets.
The Bears will stay in AAC play as they take on Point on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. on the road in West Point, Ga.
