Volleyball Defeats Point

Box Score The Lady Bears Volleyball team traveled to Point University in West Point, Georgia Tuesday night to take on the Skyhawks in a pivotal Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up. The Lady Bears, who were coming off a tough stretch of home games from the previous weekend, rose to the occasion and defeated the Skyhawks in 3 straight games by scores of 26-24, 25-22, and 25-18.

In the first match, a handful of missed serves led to the Bears finding themselves down by a score of 24-21. After a time out, the Bears rallied behind the serves of Alex Brake to win the next four points and ultimately close out the first match in their favor.

In the second match, the Bears pulled away mid-game and never looked back. The Bears were able to use timely scoring and strong defense pressure to close out the second match by a score of 25-22.  

As the third match began, the Bears once again came out of the gates strong and never wavered, ultimately closing out the Skyhawks by a score of 25-18.

Hannah Simpson led the Lady Bears' offense with eight kills, while Tarryn Long and Katie Russell both added seven kills. Alex Brake and Rebekah Reems combined for 24 assists.

Defensively, the Lady Bears relied heavily on Jocelyn Mahayag, who led the team with 17 digs.

With the win, the Bears improved their overall record to 6-7 for the 2015 season and moved to 3-4 in AAC play. The win was the Bears' third road win of the season, thus helping to improve their overall road record to 3-4 on the season. The Lady Bears will be back in action this Friday, October 2nd, as they travel to Bluefield, Virginia to take on the Bluefield College Rams. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm.
