Lady Bears Volleyball Weekend Recap

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Lady Bears took to the court this past weekend for a pair of key conference matches on the road against Columbia College and St. Andrews University.

Friday night, with three close and hard fought sets, the Lady Bears fell to Columbia College. In the first set, the Bears had the lead multiple times, but could not keep it due to Columbia's aggressive offensive effort.  Losing 24-26, the Bears were unable to take a set from Columbia.

Katie Russell led the Lady Bears offensively with 5 kills.

Jocelyn Mahayag, who currently ranks second in the nation in digs per set, led the team defensively with 13 digs.

The following day, the Lady Bears traveled to Laurinburg, North Carolina to face-off with the St. Andrews University Knights. Despite coming up short, the Lady Bears battled hard throughout the course of the entire game and held their own against the Knights offensively.

The Lady Bears came out in the first set with numerous block set ups that St. Andrew's could not hit around, and as a result, they were able to take the first set 25-23. In the second and third set, the Bears lost the momentum and St. Andrews took the lead two sets to one. Refusing to give in to the Knights' offensive onslaught the Lady Bears battled toe-to-toe in the fourth set until eventually falling by a score of 23-25.

Again, Jocelyn Mahayag, led the Bears' defense effort with 19 digs.

Both Tarryn Long and Katie Russell had tremendous offensive performances against St. Andrews. Long led the team with 14 kills, while Russell added an additional 13 of her own.

After coming up short over the weekend, the Lady Bears fall to 11-18 overall on the season and 7-12 in conference play.

The Lady Bears will travel to Waleska, Georgia on Tuesday, November 3rd to take on the Eagles from Reinhardt University. This will be the Lady Bears' last regular season match-up of the 2015 season. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm.
