Lady Bears Volleyball Splits Doubleheader

CLEVELAND, GA (TMSports) - The Truett-McConnell women's volleyball team played a doubleheader this past Monday night at home in the Bear Cave. The Lady Bears won 3-0 against Brewton-Parker College (25-18, 25-20, 25-16), but followed with a 1-3 loss to Emmanuel College (20-25, 16-25, 25-21, 14-25).

In their match against Brewton-Parker, freshman Tarryn Long of Lula, GA led the offense with ten kills on 23 attempts, finishing the match with an astounding .348 hitting percentage. Jessica Epting and Hannah Simpson also contributed to the win over the Barons, each posting a .333 hitting percentage with four and five kills, respectively. Jordan Malaier ran the offensive strategy for the Lady Bears, closing out the match with 22 assists. 

The defense was led by Keri King who posted 13 digs. Hayley Haskell added eight digs to the defensive effort, followed by Simpson who tallied seven. 

In their match against the Emmanuel Lions, the offense was led by Jessica Vanegas, who proved to be a powerful force to be reckoned with on both the outside and right-side. Vanegas finished the match with nine kills and a team-high .227 hitting percentage. Simpson also contributed to the Lady Bears offensive effort, tallying 12 kills. Jordan Malaier and Brianna Keierleber, combined for a total of 31 assists for the match. Brittany Foster served aggressively throughout the match, tallying three aces against the opposing Lions. 

The Lady Bears defense was again led by King who posted 13 digs. Not far behind was Long and Haskell, posting seven and six digs, respectively. Despite their defensive efforts, the Emmanuel Lions came back from a 21-25 loss in the third set to end the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.

The Lady Bears volleyball team is currently 3-13 overall, and 1-3 in conference play. Tonight, the women's volleyball team hosts Tennessee Temple at 7:00 PM. They will resume conference play when travel to St. Andrews University on October 3rd at 6:30 PM.
