Lady Bears Make Program History with First Conference Win

Box Score CLEVELAND, Ga. (TMSports) - The Truett-McConnell Bears volleyball team took on the Point University Seahawks Tuesday, September 23 in their third Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match-up. Taking the lead early in the game, the Lady Bears clinched the first set 25-23. The Seahawks came on strong the second game, winning the set 23-25. The Lady Bears retaliated offensively in the third set, finishing with 12 kills on just 29 attempts, winning the set 25-21. After the Seahawks opened the fourth set with a 7-point run, the Bears were unable to gain back momentum and they dropped the set 15-25.
 
The fifth set began with the two teams battling point for point. At the time of the switch, the Seahawks were ahead 7-8. After several Seahawk errors, the Lady Bears went up 12-10 and finished the match with a kill by Hannah Simpson, defeating the Seahawks in the final set 15-13.
 
This 5-game thriller marks program history as the first conference win. The Lady Bears were led offensively by Brittany Foster, Hannah Simpson, and Jessica Vanegas, each tallying eight kills. Hayley Haskell added seven kills and Tarryn Long had six kills. Defensively, Keri King led the team in digs with 23, while Hannah Simpson contributed 21. Jordan Malaier and Brianna Keierleber combined for 31 assists. Malaier and Keierleber also added four and three aces, respectively.
 
"I am really proud of how we fought back. Although we did not have the momentum going into that final set, the girls proved that they were not going to give up, and they didn't," said Head Volleyball Coach, Melody Tenney.
 
The Lady Bears (1-2), travel to Reinhardt University this Friday for their next conference match-up.
