Lady Bears Basketball Drops First Conference Game

Columbia, SC - On Tuesday, November 4th, the Truett-McConnell women's basketball team travelled to Columbia College for their first Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) game of the 2014-2015 season. The Lady Bears fell to Columbia College 74-75 in double overtime.

Women's basketball Head Coach Matt Sanders said, "After being down 15 points at halftime, I challenged the ladies to keep fighting and clean things up on both ends of the floor…and they did!"

Junior Rhande Haskett led the team with 26 points and 11 defensive rebounds. Fellow junior teammate Helen Simoes scored 12 points for the Lady Bears, as well as posting eight defensive rebounds. Sophomore Heather Shore and junior Monica Hammond scored 10 points and nine points, respectively.

On the night, the Lady Bears shot 47% on field goals, and 42% from the three-point line. Columbia's percentages were not as impressive, as the Bears held Columbia to 40% on field goals, and 25% from the three-point line.

Coach Sanders said, "I am so proud of the comeback, and the fact that we fought them for two overtimes."

The Lady Bears are now 0-2 on the season, and 0-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. They will play their next contest at 2:00 PM this Saturday, November 8th, as they travel to Madisonville, TN to face non-conference opponent Hiwassee College.
