Volleyball Drops Two Road Matches

Gainesville, GA - This past Saturday, October 18th, the Lady Bears faced two non-conference opponents on a road match at Brenau University. The Truett-McConnell women's volleyball team took on the Golden Tigers of Brenau University, and the Wolfpack of Loyola University, both members of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC).

The Lady Bears had a rough start against Loyola, allowing them to hit .300 in the first set, resulting in a 20-25 loss. The Bears picked up their play in the second game behind the leadership of Freshman Tarryn Long, who hit .545 that game. The volleyball team pulled out a win in the second set with a score of 25-22.

The Bears could not keep their momentum as they moved into the third set, dropping the game 16-25. This score would not keep them down, as the Lady Bears refused to go down without a fight as they finished the fourth set with a 25-23 win.

The Wolfpack offense proved too strong in the fifth set. Although the Bears kept up the fight defensively, Loyola took over the match and finished with six kills and only one error, defeating the Bears 11-15.

Freshman Outside Hitter Tarryn Long proved to be the offensive weapon against the Wolfpack, hitting a career-high 17 kills in the match. Long also posted a .286 hitting percentage, one of her highest of the season. Brianna Keierleber led the team in assists with 21, while Jordan Malaier chipped in 15.

In their three-game loss to Brenau, Long led the team once again with eight kills, while Hannah Simpson racked up six. Jordan Malaier and Keierleber combined for 19 assists. Defensively, Keri King led the team with 20 digs.

The Lady Bears are now 7-19 on the season. They will resume conference play this Thursday and Friday night when they play host to both Union College and Reinhardt University. Game time is set for 6:30 PM for both matches.
