Box Score Cleveland, GA - On Saturday, October 18th the Truett-McConnell women's soccer team took on the Lions of Bryan College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup.
The Bears came roaring out of the gate and immediately put pressure on the Lions defense creating a number of good goal scoring opportunities; however, the Bears struggled to find the back of the net. Then, in the 28th minute, sophomore Bianca Clark slotted a well-placed shot past the Lion's keeper. The play was assisted on a crafty pass by freshmen Chelsea Norton. The half would end with the Lady Bears leading 1-0.
In the second half, the Lady Bears came out even hungrier for goals. They would not have to wait long, as junior Brooke Reed placed a perfect cross in for Meagan Taylor, who dove in and was able to head the ball past the Lion's keeper.
The scoring would continue when just a few minutes later sophomore Paige Williams played in a perfect corner that Reed was able to hit first-time off a side volley. It was a beautiful finish by Reed that put the Bears ahead 3-0.
The visiting Lions were able to pounce back almost immediately on the Bears, scoring their only goal of the game just two minutes later. The score now showed 3-1.
However, the Lady Bears would tack on a fourth when sophomore Paige Williams found junior Mallory Reynolds on what would be a brilliantly-hit upper 90 finish, after great work by Katie McAdams as she found Williams open inside the 18-yard box. The Lady Bears would prove victorious with a 4-1 victory over the Lions.
Head Women's Soccer Coach David McDowell said, "It was great to get this result after our last two games had ended in a loss and tie, and to be able to get back to winning ways. However, I was most pleased with the performance of the girls today. They worked hard for each other and played some very good soccer throughout the 90 minutes."
With this victory, the Lady Bears move to 7-4-3 overall and 5-2-1 in AAC play. The women's soccer team returns to action at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 21st when they visit St. Andrews.
