Cleveland, GA - Tuesday night the Truett-McConnell Lady Bears volleyball team resumed conference play as they faced the Eagles of Point University. The Lady Bears came out strong in the first set, taking an early 12-2 lead. The Bears offense was too strong for the Eagles to regain momentum, finishing the first game 25-14.
In the second game, the Bears and the Eagles exchanged points back-to-back until a 4-point serving run by Brittany Foster gave the Lady Bears the advantage. The Eagles were not able to able to score more than one point behind the service line throughout that game. The Bears capitalized on their opponents mistakes, and won the second game 25-18.
In the final set, the Bears held an early lead due to a four-point run behind the powerful serves of Tarryn Long. After siding out, the Bears went on another four-point run while Jordan Malaier served. The Eagles posted 18 total errors in the third set, allowing the Bears to win the third game 25-22.
Leading the Bears offense was Long, the Freshman Outside Hitter from Lula, Georgia, who tallied six kills and four aces against the visiting Eagles. Senior Middle Blocker Jessica Epting posted five kills, hitting .347 on the night. Hannah Simpson, Hayley Haskell, and Brittany Foster each added two kills. Defensively, Freshman Libero Keri King led the way with 16 digs, while Simpson contributed 13.
This win over Point University marks the first 3-0 conference win in program history, as well as records the most number of win in a season.
The Lady Bears continue conference play at home this Friday at 6:30 PM against Bluefield College.
