Joe Herrera

Herrera is entering his first year at the Director of Volleyball.

Herrera joins TMU with 20 plus years of experience coaching indoor volleyball, beach volleyball and mentoring athletes in their spiritual walks with Christ.

In 2016, Herrera was named as the GISA Coach of the Year, after leading the TCS Lady Lions to victory in the GISA State Championship. Herrera has spent the last few years coaching the high school volleyball program at Trinity Christian School in Sharpsburg, Georgia, where he took a two-year hiatus in 2019 to coach the former Appalachian Athletic Conference member, Point University, women's volleyball program. Herrera led the Skyhawks 2019 team to the National Tournament for the first and only time in Point history.
 
Herrera, a Cuba native, came to the United States with his family in 1983, where he lived the remainder of his adolescent years in Miami, Florida. He is a 1993 graduate from Atlantic High School in Delray beach and holds a bachelor's degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Master's in Christian Leadership from Liberty University (2012), while also being ordained as a Minister.
 
Herrera and his wife Kristina have been married for 29 years this upcoming May, and have three children, Joey (21), Emily (18) and Jacob (9).
