Dave Herron is entering into his first year as the Head Men's Volleyball Coach, Assistant Women's Indoor Volleyball Coach and Assistant Women's Beach Volleyball Coach. Coach Herron and wife, Barbara Herron, have coached alongside each other for 40+ years.
Coach Herron began coaching in the sport of volleyball in the Fall of 1983. He was asked to take over the Varsity Girls program at Whittier Christian High School in Southern California. Over the next four years he developed the program to the point of winning league championships and taking the GVB to the state tournament.
In 1984, after watching the Men's Olympic team win a Gold medal inn Los Angeles, Coach Herron began a start-up BVB program at WCHSwith his wife Barbara Herron. They competed in the public school league and won a total of 3 matches in the first 3 seasons. Beginning with the 1988 season, some success came their way and by the Spring of 1989 WCHShad won the inaugural Southern Section Invitational state tournament. From 1990-1992, Coach Herron took his teams to the Al Scatessummer VB camp, where he earned a spot on staff and players Skills improved. Coach Barbara Herron was the Frosh coach that taught skills, system and strategy to incoming freshman in the program.
The program turned a corner and won a Southern Section State title in 1991,1992 and 1993, setting a state CIF record of a 60 match win streak, which is still in the CIF record book.
In 1994, the Herrons took a college coaching position at Northland International University in NE Wisconsin. They were named as coaches for the women’s program. They took their agenda and program of talent development and enjoyed moderate success with the women as their teams enjoyed Tournament and Regional championships and earned a spot in the NCCAAnational tournament 4-5 times from 1994 - 2014. Coach Herron was named the National VB Chair from 2000-2002. Mrs Barbara Herron was named the NCCAA/USAVNational Coach of the year in 2001.
In 1998, the Herrons began another start up program with a men's club team, which participated in the collegiate division of the Badger Region. In 2000 NIU won a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference State title. They continued to challenge for the WVC title as they continued to participate.
In 2017, Coach Herron took an Athletes in Action team to Thailand to compete internationally.
From the summer of 1994-present, the Herron’s have traveled to 26 different states, as well as Guam and Hawaii conducting/directing summer skills camps. Coach Herron has also been a part of summer coaching staffs at UCLA, Emory, UW Green Bay and Baylor. The Herronshave a dozen or more of their alumni players now coaching at the HS level. Coach Herron has collegiate coaches at Azusa Pacific, TruettMcConnell and Baylor University.

I desire to give the skills/systems/strategies needed so that players/coaches can manage the demands of the game and have a profitable experience. Even more important is that we help them grow as men and women in God honoring faith!”
