Barbara Herron is entering into her first year as the Assistant Men's Volleyball Coach, Assistant Women's Indoor Volleyball Coach and Assistant Women's Beach Volleyball Coach. Coach Herron and husband, Dave Herron, have coached alongside each other for 40+ years.
Coach Herron began a start-up BVB program at WCHS with her husband Dave Herron. They competed in the public school league and won a total of 3 matches in the first 3 seasons. Beginning with the 1988 season, some success came their way and by the Spring of 1989 WCHS had won the inaugural Southern Section Invitational state tournament. From 1990-1992, the Herrons took their teams to the Al Scates summer VB camp. Coach Barbara Herron was the Frosh coach that taught skills, system and strategy to incoming freshman in the program.
The program turned a corner and won a Southern Section State title in 1991,1992 and 1993, setting a state CIF record of a 60 match win streak, which is still in the CIF record book.
In 1994, the Herrons took a college coaching position at Northland International University in NE Wisconsin. They were named as coaches for the women’s program. They took their agenda and program of talent development and enjoyed moderate success with the women as their teams enjoyed Tournament and Regional championships and earned a spot in the NCCAA national tournament 4-5 times from 1994 - 2014. Coach Herron was named the NCCAA/USAV National Coach of the year in 2001.
In 1998, the Herrons began another start up program with a men's club team, which participated in the collegiate division of the Badger Region. In 2000 NIU won a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference State title. They continued to challenge for the WVC title as they continued to participate.
From the summer of 1994-present, the Herron’s have traveled to 26 different states, as well as Guam and Hawaii conducting/directing summer skills camps. The Herrons have a dozen or more of their alumni players now coaching at the HS level. Coach Herron has collegiate coaches at Azusa Pacific, Truett McConnell and Baylor University.
