Box Score 3 CLEVELAND, Ga. – Truett McConnell women's volleyball won two matches before falling in the Bear Invitational championship on Saturday. The team defeated Montreat 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-22), Brewton-Parker 3-2 (24-25, 20-25, 25-14, 25-11, 15-13) and lost to St. Mary of the Woods 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-5).

The Lady Bears finished as the runner up in the tournament after advancing to the championship match. Overall, they went a combined 4-2 over the weekend.

Game 1: TMU 3, Montreat 0
Both teams battled to start the first set with a 7-7 tie. TMU surged ahead with a 6-1 scoring run which included four errors by the Cavaliers. Up 17-13, two bad sets and three attack errors produced. 5-1 run for the home team, resulting in an eight-point lead. Three final points which included two combined kills by
Elizabeth Cook and
Faith Clarkson gave Truett the set one win.

Already up 7-2, nine consecutive points produced a commanding 14-point lead for the Lady Bears. Montreat tried to fight back with a 6-0 scoring run, but the lead was too great as TMU rolled to a 2-0 match lead. Another strong start by the Lady Bears brought forth a 12-5 lead. Trailing 21-13, The Cavs scored five in a row to bring the set within three. The score was 23-22 in favor of the home team late before an error and a final ace by
Claudia Yates ended the set and the match.

Game 2: TMU 3, Brewton-Parker 2
The Lady Bears started fast in the first set with an 11-6 advantage. With the lead at 17-14 The Barons scored five unanswered points to go ahead by two. TMU had chances with scores of 23-23 and 24-24, but two kills by Brewton-Parker secured the set. Set two was also a close affair late with a 20-18 Truett lead. However, seven consecutive points by the Barons ended the set and gave the away team the 2-0 match score.

Trailing by two in the third set, TMU racked off an 8-1 scoring run to surge in front 20-13. Two kills by Clarkson catalyzed a 5-0 run to end the set as the Lady Bears stayed alive. Set four was a rout for TMU, as scoring runs of 6-1, 8-1 and 5-0 produced a 14-point set win. Cook was the kill leader in the set, collecting four in the blowout. In the final set, TMU raced to a 6-3 lead before a run of four straight points put Brewton-Parker in front. Three straight points helped by kills by
Anna Forbus and
Annabel Sauers gave the home team back control, but a 5-0 run by BP gave a 12-9 score. However, with a final 6-1 run, the Lady Bears completed the comeback and advanced to the championship game.

Game 3: St. Mary of the Woods 3, TMU 0
The Pomeroys control most of the match with wins of 25-11 and 25-5 in sets two and three. Set one was a closer match with scores of 16-11 and 20-15 in favor of the away team, but Truett was outplayed and couldn't keep the championship trophy.
