TMU Wins Fourth Straight in 3-0 Win Over Cavaliers

Fast starts in all three sets led the way in the straight set win.

MONTREAT, N.C. – A .207 hitting percentage as a team which included 38 kills led to a 3-0 straight set win for Truett McConnell women's volleyball (12-4 overall, 2-0 AAC) over Montreat (3-4 overall, 1-1 AAC) Tuesday evening.

The Lady Bears dominated on the attack, with their 38 kills overpowering Montreat's 18 through three sets. The team also collected 35 assists and six blocks at the line.

Julia Fisher and Alexis Mills both topped the club in kills with each producing eight on the night. Fisher also collected a season-high 4.0 blocks and had 12 digs. Caroline Yeager totaled 14 assists on the set.

TMU raced out to a 6-1 lead in set one before both teams settled in, resulting in a 9-5 score. With a five-point advantage, the away team used a run of 5-2 to pull further ahead. Four unanswered points by the Lady Bears put them in front 22-11 before a scoring run of 7-2 by the Cavaliers made things interesting late with a six-point margin. A final kill in the set by Fisher gave the away squad a 1-0 match advantage.

Truett continued the trend of fast starts in the second set, this time scoring ten of the first 13 points to lead by seven. Montreat responded by keeping the Lady Bear attack at bay and used four TMU errors to narrow the gap to four before a timeout. A 4-0 run by the home team brought the score to 17-15 before a 6-0 run by TMU put it back in control. An error and a kill by Mills ended the set and put Montreat's backs against the wall.

Tied at 4-4, the Lady Bears powered a 7-1 scoring run to pull ahead by six with a Cavalier timeout. The home squad narrowed the margin to three points before Truett scored eight of the next nine points to assume control again. The Cavs only mustered three more points in the set as the Lady Bears cruised to their fourth straight win.

TMU returns home to the Harris Athletic Complex this Friday with a match vs. Brenau scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
