CLEVELAND, Ga. – A goal in the 83^rd minute by Patriot Letizia Traversone was the dagger for No. 8 Truett McConnell women's soccer (1-1) in a 2-1 loss against No. 2 University of the Cumberlands (2-0) Thursday afternoon.
 
Both teams were evenly matched in shooting, with the Lady Bears producing nine total shots with four on target while UC shot ten times with three on goal. Patriots' goalkeeper Morgan White made two saves on the day.
 
TMU produced the first shot in the eighth minute of the contest, an on-target attempt by Evangelina Seidel that was saved by the keeper. UC put forward three shots from 12:50 through 15:35, two of which were off target while the other was saved by Noa del Rio, who made her first start of the season.
 
After a shot in the 22^nd minute, both teams faced defensive centered play until the 31^st minute as a shot taken by Andrea Perez was blocked. A single shot by the Lady Bears was the only offense for the rest of the half as both sides stood scoreless at the break.
 
The Patriots broke the 0-0 tie in the 54^th minute with a goal by Abigail Little, assisted by Lisa Skjoldager, making it a 1-0 UC lead. Little tried to increase the margin to two goals with two header shots, but both attempts sailed high of the crossbar.
 
In the 70^th minute, after the ball was brought back into the defensive zone, Erin Ward launched a pass to the other side of the field to Peyton Brooks, who was able to get past the defense and bank home the equalizer, tying the game 1-1. Both players received their first points of the year with the score.
 
Following the goal, Truett had two opportunities with shots by Brooks and Joanna Funes, but both went wide left. With an assist by Laura Bosca, Traversone netted the ball to give the Patriots back the lead. The Lady Bears produced one more shot in the game, but it was saved by the keeper as they were handed their first loss of the season.
 
Brooks and Funes both produced two shots on the match as four players recorded a SOG. As a team, the Lady Bears committed less fouls, but were outproduced on corner kick opportunities, as the Patriots had nine to TMU's one.
 
Truett will play its second consecutive ranked matchup on Monday, Aug. 31 as it travels to Lakeland, Fla. for a game against No. 17 Southeastern University.
