DENMARK, S.C. –Truett McConnell University men's basketball (1-1) earned its first win of the 2026-27 season with an 80-74 victory over the Voorhees University Tigers (0-1) on Friday.
TMU opened the contest by shooting at an elite level, including an 83% conversion rate from beyond the arc and a 61% field goal percentage in the first half. The first 20 minutes were highlighted by 12-0 run from 5:05-0:33 made possible by four points, a rebound and an assist from graduate student
Jadon Yeh.
The Bears matched their 40 points from the first frame with the exact same amount in the second half. It was the 20 minutes after intermission that featured a majority of
Calvin Carter II's career high 20 points, as the sophomore posted 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals in the second half alone. Yeh and
Preston Kent also provided offensive assistance with seven points each in the second frame.
Voorheers did well in matching Truett McConnell's attack in the second half, compiling 39 points after halftime, but the five point deficit they faced before the break proved to be too large to overcome. Ry'Darius Hill led the Tigers' charge with 17 points and two rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.
Truett McConnell finished with a 36-18 rebound differential and committed just 14 fouls to Voorhees' 25. Carter II and
Preston Tuggle collected an impressive five offensive rebounds each. The Bears shot 54% from the field, 67% from three and 73% from the line in what was an accurate offensive showing throughout.
TMU will carry this momentum on the road again as they travel to Toccoa Falls, Ga. to face the University of Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles on Tuesday.
