Women's Volleyball Losses to Johnson in Four Sets

Anna Forbus had ten kills and two blocks on the day.

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Truett McConnell women's volleyball (17-7, 7-3 AAC) lost in four sets 3-1 (32-30, 21-25, 25-16, 25-13) to Johnson University (9-10, 7-3 AAC) Saturday afternoon.

Individually, Anna Forbus led the team with 10 kills on the day while Caroline Yeager recorded 14 assists. Adleigh Schwier had 13 digs, and Emily Miolen produced two blocks at the line.

The Lady Bears started set one with a 10-7 lead before a scoring run of 6-2 by the Royals gave them the one-point edge. No team in the beginning set scored three points in a row until the 18-17 mark, where both Johnson and Truett McConnell produced 3-0 runs.

With a combined 5-2 scoring run, the away team held set point up 27-26, but TMU answered the bell each time. Finally, a bad set and a kill by Zowee Dillard, one of her team-leading 17 in the match, ended the set as Johnson went out in front 1-0.

Truett once again went up 10-7 in set two before Johnson scored six of the next nine points to tie things at 13-13. Five consecutive points by the Lady Bears gave them firm control of the set late. With a seven-point margin, the Royals tried to fight back with four straight scores, but a service error resulted in a 1-1 tie going into set three.

With a 6-3 TMU lead, Johnson took over the set, scoring 14 of the next 15 points to take a ten-point lead. The closest Truett could get was seven points the rest of the way as Johnson went up 2-1 in the match.

The Lady Bears recovered early in the fourth with a 6-5 to start. Leading by one, the Royals went on a 9-2 run to establish control once again with a 17-9 lead. Up by seven late, the away team collected five straight points to win the set and the match.

Truett McConnell will be back at home on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. when they play the second season matchup vs. Spartanburg Methodist College.
