Braud Records Three Points as Lady Bears Win Tenth Straight

The freshman produced a goal and an assist on the day.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Goals by Salome Deneubourg and Agathe Braud set up a 2-0 win for No. 8 Truett McConnell women's soccer (11-1-1, 8-0 AAC) over Pikeville (7-4-1, 4-1-1 AAC) Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bears once again won the shot battle with 12 shots overall compared to UPike's three and had more corner kick opportunities with a 7-2 mark. It was also a foul-filled afternoon with 31 combined fouls between the two teams, which featured five yellow cards.

Deneubourg earned her second goal of the season as Braud recorded three points on the day. The freshman led the team with four total shots, while Isabelle Allen had three shots, including two shots on target.

The Bears of Pikeville recorded the first shot of the game in the seventh minute, an attempt that was stopped by goalkeeper Noa del Rio. TMU didn't record its first shot until the 14th minute, which didn't go through. Truett had two shots and forced a yellow card on Pikeville in the 21st minute, but the score remained tied at 0-0.

After a corner kick by the Lady Bears, a pass by Braud set up Deneubourg for her second goal of the season in the 38th minute, giving the away team a 1-0 lead. A shot by Anabella Moron was all the action both teams had remaining in half one, resulting in a one-goal margin at the break.

At 56:08, a yellow on UPike gave Braud an opportunity with a penalty. The freshman did not miss as the Lady Bears went up 2-0. From minute 63:00 through 65:00, Truett tried to make it 3-0 with four shots, but three attempts were stopped by the goalie while the fourth sailed wide.

UPike aimed to cut the deficit to 2-1 with a header shot at 67:51, but the ball hit the crossbar and stayed out of the net. The home team had another chance in the 75th minute; this time the post of the goal made contact with the ball, keeping the Bears off the scoreboard. One more shot was taken by Pikeville in the 88th minute, but del Rio kept the ball out and secured the 2-0 victory.

The Lady Bears are back on the pitch next week with a second consecutive road match vs. Columbia International on Wednesday, October 14.
