TMU battles No. 19 Johnson University

CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 28, 2025) - On Friday and Saturday the Truett McConnell University baseball hosted No. 19 Johnson University for a three game Appalachian Athletic Conference series, where the Bears suffered a tough loss in game one (12-9) and split the doubleheader with a win in game two (8-4) and a loss in game three (9-3). TMU falls to an overall record of 11-22, 8-13 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY 
GAME ONE 
LOSS 12-9
Johnson was first on the board giving the Royals a five-run lead. Matthew Redmond stole home in the fourth, earning the first run for TMU. The Bears were scoreless until the eighth when Sawyer Bearden scored a run. The Bears had an impressive ninth inning, recording seven runs, featuring hits by Donovan Parker and Caleb Adair. TMU held on top hope, eager to steal the win in game one but ultimately suffered a hard fought loss, 12-9.

GAME TWO 
WIN 8-4
In the third, Bearden was first to touch home for the Bears after a bases loaded walk by Dylan Sargent put TMU on the board. Momentum continued to roll in the fifth with a hit from Jake Edwards bringing in Caleb Williams. Sargent also recorded a two RBI single to bring in Edwards and Redmond. In the sixth a double by Redmond followed by a sacrifice fly by Edwards, added two more runs. Final singles by Karvelas and Redmond, ultimately finalized a huge win for the Bears as TMU kept Johnson behind to collect a win in game two, 8-4.

GAME THREE
LOSS 3-9
JU began the game with three runs on the board. A sacrifice fly by Williams in the third added TMU's first run as TMU worked from behind. The third also saw Edwards record a single allowing Dylan Thompson to score. TMU recorded their final run of the evening in the sixth with a double by Edwards, capable of sending Redmond home. Final score 9-3.

UP NEXT
The Bears will travel on Friday, April 4 to compete in a three game AAC series against No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan University. Game time set for 2:00 p.m.
