Bears sweep conference series at Union

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (March 21, 2025)- The Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to Union Commonwealth University to play in an Appalachian Athletic Conference three games series where the Bears swept the Bulldogs winning 18-6, 5-4, and 4-2, raising their record to 10-19, 7-11 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY 
GAME ONE 
WIN 18-6
The Bears were first on the board with Caleb Williams scoring off an error. Dylan Sargent hit a three-run home run in the third, putting TMU up early. Jake Edwards kept the momentum going with an RBI sacrifice fly bringing in Sam Reed. Sargent hit a single letting Williams collect his second run of the game. Jacob Karvelas sacrifice bunted letting Matthew Redmond score. Brodie Genter singled getting two RBI's scoring Sawyer Bearden and Tanon Mankoski. Edwards got walked with the bases loaded allowing Sam Reed to touch home plate. Williams scored again in the fifth. Redmond stole home giving the Bears a total of 12 runs. Bearden finished the fifth with another run increasing the gap by eight runs. Bearden singled and scored Mankowski and Edwards. A passed by ball in the seventh allowed Bearden to score once more. Caleb Adair hit a sacrifice fly to center field letting Karvelas tag up and go home. A final sacrifice fly by Genter scored the final run of the game. Final score,18-6. 
 
LEADERS
Sargent led the way in game one going 3-5 at the plate with four RBIs and one run. Karvelas followed going 3-3 at the plat with two RBIs, while Bearden tallied three RBIs and Genter and Edwards had two RBIs a piece. Pitcher Samuel crew was featured recording five strikeouts in game one.
 
GAME TWO 
WIN 5-4
Union Commonwealth was first on the board with three runs. TMU did not let this slow the Bears down turning the game around in the fourth with hits by Dylan Thompson, Genter and Redmond scoring five total runs. A final run by the opposing team in the final inning of the game attempted to bridge the gap but was unsuccessful as the Bears won, 5-4. 
 
LEADERS
Redmond led the way for the Bears going 2-5 and recording two RBIs. Edwards and Adair were both featured going 2-4 at the plate while Adair had one run. Thompson and Genter were both featured tallying one RBI a piece.
 
GAME THREE
WIN 4-2
Sargent set the tone for game three with a hit and an RBI in the first bringing in Williams. Redmond followed in the second hitting a sacrifice fly to score Adair. To runs by the opposing team kept the match even for seven innings as both teams worked to add to the board. In the ninth, a clutch single by Williams gave Thompson the chance to see home. Sargent capped of the game with a double bringing in Redmond for the final run. Final score, 4-2. 
 
LEADERS
Sargent led the way going 2-5 at the plate and recording two RBIs. Williams followed going 2-5 as well with one RBI and one run. Thompson was featured recording two hits while Redmond had one RBI. Hank Simonds was featured recording five strikeouts while pitching a complete nine inning game.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will travel to Spartanburg Methodist College on Wednesday, March 26 for a non-conference matchup. Game set to start at 2:00 p.m.
