MONTREAT, N.C. (March 1, 2025) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University softball team traveled to face Montreat College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Lady Bears pulled off the sweep with back to back wins in game one (6-4) and game two (12-8). TMU rises to an overall record of 11-5, 2-0 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
GAME ONE | TMU 6 - MC 4
TMU was first to score in the second inning after a double by Kyndall Gipson to center field and a sacrifice fly by Rachel Morgan brought two Lady Bears home (2-0). The Cavaliers fought back scoring one run in both the second, third, and fifth innings, taking control of the scoreboard, 3-2. The Lady Bears continued to show their grit, eager to take back the lead when a single by Mackenzie Heim in the sixth inning tied up game one (3-3). A go-ahead three run home run by Isabelle Sullivan later in the inning ultimately proved to be the difference maker in the game one win (6-3). MC scored their final run of the game in the seventh, failing to stop TMU from earning the win, 6-4.
LEADERS
Sullivan led the way for the Lady Bears, recording a three RBI home-run. Gipson followed going 3-4 at the plate with one RBI and two runs while also recording four strikeouts. Jenna O'Brien was featured going 3-4 with one stolen base.
GAME TWO | TMU 12 - MC 8
In game two, the Cavaliers struck back with vengeance recording five runs in the first two innings (5-0). TMU quickly responded in the third with a Cassie Boatright double creating space for O'Brien to go home (5-1). In the fourth, back-to-back hits by Heim and Sullivan allowed the Lady Bears to add three more runs to the scoreboard, attempting to tie up the game (5-4). The Lady Bears had a jam packed fifth inning recording seven runs to take the lead, featuring singles by Gipson, Heim and Boatright, paired with a double by Tristan Brady (12-5). The Cavaliers once again did their best to recover from TMU's strong offensive performance but ultimately could not stand in the way of a Lady Bears win, 12-8.
LEADERS
Boatright led the way for TMU going 3-5 at the plate with two RBIs and one run. Heim followed going 2-4 with two RBIs, while Brady went 1-1 with three RBIs. Elizabeth Bennett was featured recording six strikeouts in game two.

TMU will be back in action on Friday, March 7 as the Lady Bears travel to face Columbia International University in a AAC doubleheader match-up. Game one set for 3:00 p.m.
