Bears unable to bridge gap, record loss against Royals

CLEVELAND, Ga. (February 1, 2025) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team hosted Johnson University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up where the Bears fell to the Johnson Royals 74-68, falling to a record of 9-12, 6-8 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Jadon Yeh started the Bears off with a made layup and a good three pointer. JU quickly answered with two made baskets tying the game. Both teams fought back and forth, eager to take and maintain the lead. A good layup by Myles McCrary followed by two good baskets by Shawn Walker kept the Bears close as JU continued to push ahead. A good three-pointer by EJ Smith put TMU back in range as the Bears worked to decrease the gap. A final first half jump shot by Yeh decrease the margin to seven points as both teams entered halftime (42-35).
 
JU began the second half eager to once again control the game. A 17-point increase between the teams scores attempted to sway the Bears, but TMU was not shaken as a three-pointer by Yeh followed by a good layup by Omari Joseph began to decrease the gap. Another good three by Yeh paired with a good layup by Smith successfully bridged the deficit to four points late in regulation. TMU continued to give it their all with a final three-point shot by Smith attempting to change the game's fate, but was ultimately not enough to pull ahead, falling to a final score, 74-68.
 
LEADERS
Yeh led the way for the Bears recording 20 points, going 4-5 at the three-point arch. McCrary followed with a double-double, with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Smith tallied 12 points and six rebounds, while Raul Arias-Ortega had 10 points. 
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will host Tennessee Wesleyan University for an AAC match-up on Wednesday, February 5, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. Tip-off set for 7:30pm.
