Women’s Basketball secures win in thriller against Bryan

CLEVELAND, Ga. (January 7, 2025) - On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Bryan College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Lady Bears pulled off the nail biting win after recording a 52-49 comeback in the final minutes of regulation. 

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first quarter started off slow with both teams staying sharp on defense. TMU was ultimately first to score with a layup by Alexis Brewster. Jump shots by Brinkley Kate Reed, paired with layups by Alissa Winters and Destinee Lovejoy gave allowed TMU to keep the score close, 10-12. The second quarter saw the Lady Bears record eight consecutive points featuring layups by Lovejoy, Brewster and Kayleigh Kelley. Made free throws by Madison Aguilera followed by a layup by Brewster, kept TMU in the game as the Lady Bears trailed by one entering the half (26-27).

In the third quarter, TMU gave it their all eager to retain the lead. Two layups by Reed and Kelley, paired with a good three pointer by Jordynn Webster continued to give the Lady Bears hope. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears banned together to change the outcome of the game. A last chance effort by the Lions attempted to stop TMU from gaining momentum, but sharp shooting at the free throw line by the Lady Bears ultimately proved TMU capable of securing the win 52-49. 

LEADERS
Brewster led the way recording a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, paired with four assists. Kelley followed with 10 points, while Webster had six points. Lovejoy was featured tallying five rebounds on the evening. 

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will be back in action inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Saturday, January 11 as TMU hosts AAC competitor, the University of Pikeville. Tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
