DAYTON, Tenn. (April 6, 2024) - The Truett McConnell University softball team closed out their weekend road trip at Bryan College, where the Lady Bears bounced back to secure an Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep over the Lions with final score of 6-0 and 6-4.
GAME ONE | SANDERS NO-HITTER
The Lady Bears brought the heat as they had a sharp performance on defense and offense, sparked by a Jenna O'Brien RBI single to score Isabelle Sullivan in the top of the third inning. Hailey Cronic followed the action with a RBI double, while a hot shot from Grace Folds resulted in a three run in-the-park homer to get ahead 5-0. Kyleigh Sanders was a force to be reckoned with as she shut down the Lions offense, while a final sacrifice fly from Folds set the score to 6-0 for a game one win.
LEADERS
Folds led the way going 1 for 3 at the plate, along with tallying four RBIs and one run. O'Brien followed going 1 for 3 at the plate with one run and one RBI, while Boatright went 1 for 3 with two runs. Sanders had a day on the mound, recording her third no-hitter in her career, along with tallying 12 strikeouts in the shutout win.
GAME TWO | 6-4
The Lady Bears were first to strike in game two in the top of the second after an RBI single from Rachel Morgan and smart base running from Folds put TMU on the board, followed by a Boatright sac fly and Kyndall Gipson RBI double gave the Lady Bears a hefty lead in the third inning (4-0). The Lions made their way to the board in the fifth inning with a single run, but it was no match for TMU as an Emme Souter RBI double and Sullivan RBI single gave the visiting team the advantage they need to ultimately clinch the win with a final score of 6-4.
LEADERS
Morgan led going 2 for 3 at the plate with one run and one RBI, while Graham and O'Brien individually went 1 for 4 with one run. Sullivan went 1 for 3 with one RBI, followed by Gipson who went 1 for 4 with one run and one RBI.
