Women's Lacrosse concludes 2024 season at AAC Tournament

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (April 18, 2024) – On Thursday, the Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team traveled to compete in the first round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament, where the No. 6 seed Lady Bears, fell to the No. 3 seed Montreat College after a heartbreaking battle, 18-15. TMU finishes their season with an overall record of 3-12, 1-5 AAC, while MC rises to a record of 7-7, 4-2 AAC.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first quarter, MC scored eight goals, forcing the Lady Bears to respond with seven of their own, featuring three goals by Shelby Nail, three goals by Marlo McBrayer, and one goal for Katie Smith (7-8). TMU continued to work, carrying their momentum into the second quarter, scoring four goals, one by Smith and Kaitlyn Morgenroth, and two by Nail, holding the Cavaliers to two goals and taking the lead, 11-10.
 
A shift in momentum for MC saw the opposing team add six more goals of their own as the Lady Bears were featured drawing two to the back of the net, by Morgenroth and McBrayer (13-16). In the final quarter, the Lady Bears worked hard on defense to hold MC to two lone goals, as McBrayer once again found the back of the net. A final attempt by Smith in the last minutes of regulation, attempted to change the result of the game but was ultimately unable to connect, falling in a heartbreaking battle, 18-15.
 
LEADERS
Nail led the way for the Lady Bears with five goals, two assists, and 15 shots, eight on goal. McBrayer followed with five goals, 11 shots, eight on goal, with four draw controls. Smith was featured scoring three goals, while Morgenroth had two goals and Maddie Donnelly had two assists. Goalie Sally Marcum was featured recording 11 saves and six ground balls.
