CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 23, 2024) - On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men's volleyball team hosted St. Andrews University for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up, where the Bears fought hard, sending the match to four sets but ultimately falling to a final score of 3-1 (25-21, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21). TMU falls to an overall record of 6-15, 0-10 AAC, while SAU rises to a record of 19-8, 5-4 AAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first set, TMU was first to score with a kill by Caleb Bosveld. Both teams remained evenly matched when an early four point rally by the Knights put SAU in the lead. The Bears continued to work together as kills by Alex Bosman and Troy McAlister attempted to change the game, ultimately falling to a final set score of 25-21. The second set saw the Knights with an early lead, increasing the gap by 10 points over the Bears. A three-point rally by TMU, featuring a kill by Bosveld and a service ace from Jakob Lee, worked to decrease the deficit but was ultimately unsuccessful, falling in set two, 25-14.
In the third set, the match stayed even as both teams tried to secure the win. Two kills by McAlister continued to push the Bears over the Knights when a final kill by Stephen Dixon followed by an error on the visiting team, gave TMU set three, 25-23. In the final set, the Bears were first to score with kills by Bosveld and Bosman, paired with a service ace by Dixon. TMU continued to show their grit, eager to take the fourth set when two final kills by the opposing team ultimately allowed the Knights to take the match win, with a final set score of 25-21.
LEADERS
Bosman led the way with 15 kills, two solo blocks and a block assist. Bosveld followed with 11 kills, while McAlister tallied 10 kills and a solo block. Wensky Saintilmond was featured recording 35 assists on the evening.Â
