BRUNSWICK, Ga. (February 2, 2024) - The Truett McConnell University softball team opened their season on the road on Friday, where the Lady Bears traveled to face No. 18 Coastal Georgia College to a score of 8-2 in game one and 10-5 in game two.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Game one saw Coastal hit the board first in the bottom of the first inning with five runs. The Lady Bears worked hard to push a run of their own across the board, capable of decreasing the home team's lead in the top of the sixth inning after a double to right field from Hailey Cronic sent Cassie Boatright home (5-1). Isabelle Sullivan followed the action by putting a ball in play to the right side of the field to offer Anslee Pittman the opportunity to score (5-2). The Mariners did not hold back as they added two more runs of their own to make the final score 8-2.
Game two proved a challenge for the Lady Bears as the Mariners hit the board first once again (6-0). Cronic gave TMU hope with a fielders choice RBI to work at the lead, but Coastal could not be stopped as they added two more runs of their own (8-1). Cronic stayed hot with a two RBI single in the top of the fifth (8-3), followed by Grace Folds and Jenna O'Brien who joined the action in the top of the seventh scoring on wild pitches in final efforts at the lead (10-5).
